Living apart this round has been awful in terms of adult company. The Teen and Tween are great, but sometimes, I see just the two of them for days, and I get a little loopy and desperate to talk to an adult. So far, I have made two friends: the ex-Marine who runs the lawn service and Breezy, my across-the-street-neighbor. Last week, Breezy was dating a new guy, so she wasn't around much. That left the Marine. As soon as he pulled onto my street and deployed his fleet of mowers and blowers, I flew out the door, hoping to discuss anything besides DIY slime recipes.
Wowza, Marines are quite observant.
I learned more about my new neighbors in that one conversation than I could have by creeping everyone's Facebook pages for hours. All of this information is classified as recon. The Marine can call it whatever he wants as long as he'll spill the tea once a week.
Since the Teen and Tween have to go to school, Z and I haven't been able to be-bop back and forth between our houses like we could before having kids, so we have been developing binge-ish habits. Mine has been binge reading. First, I bought cheap books I found in a bin at 7-Eleven. But then, I didn't know what to do with all the books I was collecting, so I subscribed to Kindle Unlimited. Check out the Kindle Unlimited Membership Plansfor a free month. I discovered Stephanie Bond on the very first night, and I have been reading my way through everything she has written. Bond has a delightful writing style, but I also love the way she markets her books.
She writes regular-length books and she writes serial books that she posts day-by-day on her website.
So, for instance, COMEBACK GIRL: part 1 of 6 (Kindle Single)was first a web series that she posted day by day on her website for six months, from July 1 through December 31. At the end of the month, she will sell that month's chapters in a short "Kindle Single," for a couple of bucks. Kindle Unlimited offered these for free this summer.
She also writes regular books, too, and they are all available on Kindle, and many of them are free to borrow.
Do you have favorite fun Kindle books to recommend? I'd love to know what everyone else recommends!
